Rep. Stupak Questions Witnesses On Rescission Triggers

Today, the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing entitled “Terminations of Individual Health Policies by Insurance Companies.” The hearing examined the practice of “post-claims underwriting,” which occurs when insurance companies cancel individual health insurance policies after providers submit claims for medical services rendered. The Committee conducted an investigation into the practice of health insurance rescission, and the results were alarming. Over the past five years, almost 20000 individual insurance policyholders have had their policies rescinded by the three insurance companies who testified today: Assurant, UnitedHealth Group, and WellPoint.

American people about in a coma w / iPods blasting in their ears. You are not interested in health insurance because they never get sick. You are in a fantasy bubble. Get Smart, read about government and what’s going to affect them.

They’re not in the health insurance business for our health — just our money.

krystalb2000 29/07/2010 at 05:54

And people quiver in fear over the possibility that the government may somehow stand in between them and their doctors one day. . . well, THESE cold heartless insurance bastards right here already stand between us and our doctors, and will continue to do so until health care is reformed.

The people testifying are all full of shit. They only reason they don’t collect all the medical records is not because of costs or delay in processing the application. They to collect as many premiums from you as possible before using this recision process. It’s all a numbers and probability game. That’s why it can’t be left in the hands of for profit companies.

Just remind me of the Gov’s Quote in Blazing Saddles: “Gentlemen- We must Protect our Phoney-Baloney Jobs!”

You are correct, because hospitals and doctors are afraid of being sued by emotional family members. We need to let people live/die with dignity. Living wills are a must today. Then a patient can decide at what age to stop excessive care. Those who can afford may want to live as long as possible by any means, but it would be by self choice.
